 5. CONSTITUTIONAL AFFAIRS SECRETARIAT

       In 1345 F/ 1935 on the unanimous proposal of the Executive Council,His Exalted Highness the Nizam sanctioned the creation of a new Government Secretariat for “Counsitutional Affairs”, separate from the Political Department which began to perform the functions of the External Relations Committee.

       In constitutional matters, the immediate function of the Secretariat was  to deal with all important questions of the instrument of Accession, to watch the trend of legislation in British India having a federal bearing, to effect co-ordination with the State departments in general and the Committee of Ministers in particulars, to give correct information whenever desirable on constitutional matters, and in general, to perform all the other duties which formerly fell within the purview of the External Relations Committee. The information Bureau was also placed under the new Secretariat.  The records of the Constitutional Affairs Secretariat are in English and Urdu, the English files are in the majority. The records of this Secretariat were shifted to the Central Record Office (now State Archives) in November, 1949.
